Tooth Truck volunteers are referred to as “Dental Care Advocates” because they help instill in our young patients that they have the power to maintain good oral health. Our dedicated volunteers provide additional one-on-one support for children. They greet children and accompany them to and from their classrooms. They teach each child about oral hygiene and calm fears of children new to dental care. They even help with homework or teach a craft, providing true one-on-one time. In addition, volunteers may also contact the child’s parents and/or guardians to confirm after-school appointments and help process patient applications.
Volunteers usually commit one to two volunteer shifts a month, with shifts being from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM or from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. These times may vary depending on the start time and lunch times of individual schools.
